Accessory Designer

As an accessory designer you will be designing accessories such as jewellery, footwears, scarves,belts, hats, handbags etc with the use of your creativity in order to create novel ideas and designs for various accessories.

What do an Accessory Designer do?

An accessory designer will create and design products such as jewellery, shoes, hats, belts, scarves etc. using their skills, creativity and knowledge.They will be working on sketches and patterns of design, Production of prototypes of accessories, and styling products with different outfits

What does a typical day at work involve?

  • Checked Attending fashion shows to get ideas and inspiration for new accessories
  • Checked Creating and visualizing ideas for accessory items like sunglasses, belts, hats, scarves, handbags and shoes
  • Checked Making sketches of the designs sometimes utilizing computer-aided design (CAD) software
  • Checked Presenting sketches to a creative director or designers from other departments
  • Checked Producing prototypes of the accessories and making modifications before sending for production
  • Checked Overseeing the production of work
  • Checked Participating in launch events and fashion shows displaying your accessories
  • Checked Researching fashion trends, by reviewing reports published by fashion trade groups and looking through fashion magazines
  • Checked Attending interviews by fashion editors and reporters to discuss your designs
  • Checked Working directly with the promotions and press departments to publicize new designs

How to become a Leather Designer ?

Step 1
Take any stream at the +2 level

There is no need of choosing a particular stream at +2 level to go for accessory designing course.


Note :

You can make use of craft and drawing classes, available at school. You can go for designing workshops and participate in competitions at school level and improve your skills.

Step 2
Take Bachelor’s in Designing

The common course offered at the UG level in this field is B.Sc. Fashion Designing or B. Des. Accessory Designing. The duration of the course will be 3-4 years.


Note :

There are 1-2 year diploma courses available in fashion Designing or accessory designing.

Step 3
Take Master’s in Accessory Designing

After completing a Bachelor's in designing you can go for Master’s in accessory designing. You can either go for M Des. Accessory designing or Master’s in luxury accessory design and Management. The course will have two years as duration.
