As You will be logistician You will be able to analyze and coordinate an organization’s supply chain within a business. You will manage the supply and demand of a companies products in relation to their customer’s needs.

What do Logisticians do?

Logisticians work in virtually every industry where the delivery of a product or goods are involved. They manage the entire life cycle of a product, which includes how a product is acquired, distributed, allocated and delivered to ensure the entire supply chain can meet business needs. They oversee an organization’s logistics to manage its inventory, purchasing, warehousing, and transportation. Logisticians form close working relationships with suppliers and manufacturers to keep product inflow high.

What does a typical day at work involve?

  • Checked Directing, managing and tracking of supply chain
  • Checked Maintaining and checking the quality, quantity, stock and delivery of goods and services
  • Checked Maintaining warehouse and cataloguing of goods
  • Checked Supervising workers and shipments
  • Checked Implementing strategies to improve the efficiency of shipments and supply chain
  • Checked Negotiating and implementing new business strategies or Co-operations
  • Checked Liaise and communicating with customers and suppliers
  • Checked Controlling and allocating new vehicle roots and checking their efficiency
  • Checked Motivating and giving training to staff
  • Checked Coordinating the work of different sections of the company
  • Checked Measuring the security,health procedures of staffs

How to become logistician?

Step 1
Take any Stream at +2 level

Take any stream at +2 level but taking commerce may give you an advantage in understanding the subject you are taking up.

Step 2
Take BBA (Logistics Management)

You can take up a BBA in Logistics Management which is a 3 year course available in a few institutions in India (eg: UPES- Dehradun, Manipal Institute of Higher studies offers BBA in Logistics and Supply Chain Management) and abroad or you can take a bachelor’s degree in any discipline including BTech/BE which will make you eligible to take up postgraduate studies in Logistics Management.


Note:
  • Diploma and short term certification courses in Logistics management are also available in some institutes which are of duration from 6 to 12 months.
  • Bachelor’s courses BSc (IT & Logistics), BCom (Logistics & Shipping), BBA (Logistics & Shipping) are offered by some institutes ( IILS Chennai)
Step 3
Take MBA/PGDM with specialisation in Logistics Management

Take a 2 year Post graduate diploma program or MBA with specialisation in Supply Chain and Logistics Management (LPU). Universities abroad also offer MBA/ MSc degree programs in Logistics & Supply Chain Management. These programs are usually of 1 to 2 years duration.


Note:

A 2 years MCom in Logistics and Supply Chain Management is offered by Manipal University (MAHE) which can be taken up after a bachelor’s degree in Commerce or Management.

  • Enliglish Language Proficiency: a Score of 85 or above on the TOEFL or an overall score of 6.0 in IELTS
