As an electrical engineer, you will be designing, developing and maintaining electrical components, devices and control systems as per the required specifications.
Electrical engineers apply the principles of electricity and electronics to design and develop new electrical equipment and systems in projects ranging from designing household appliances to electrical power stations and large-scale power distribution networks and communications systems. They may be involved in these projects right from the conceptualisation stage to implementation, testing and handing over.
To be eligible for admission to an undergraduate course in electrical engineering, you need to study Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects along with one of the subjects Chemistry/Biotechnology/Biology/ Technical Vocational subject at the 10+2 level.
B.Tech in Electrical Engineering is a four year course offered by Universities and Institutes of Technology in India and abroad. Some institutions are offering dual degree programs in electrical engineering, which are five year long, at the end of the program the student will be awarded both B.Tech and M.Tech degrees.
Some institutions allow lateral entry into the second year of BTech for diploma holders in electrical engineering.
After graduation, you can take an M Tech / ME degree course in electrical engineering, which is of 2 year duration. You can also take up an equivalent MS degree course offered by foreign universities and select institutions in India
After post graduation, you can take a PhD in electrical engineering specialisations which will enable you to take up research careers in academia and the industry.
There are some institutions which offer integrated MTech-PhD programs.
