Railways

Indian Railways coming under the ministry of railways, is responsible for maintaining India’s rail network system. The Indian railways is divided into zones and further into divisions. In total, there are 18 zones and 68 divisions.

What are the different job roles available in the area?

Group A

This is the highest grade of jobs in the Railways. Under each railway zone, you can be recruited into non-technical (RPF, IRTS etc.), technical and medical services.

Non Technical Services

  • IRTS: Traffic Service
  • IRPS: Personnel Service 
  • IRAS: Accounts Service 
  • RPF: Railway Protection Force

Technical Services

  • IRSE: Civil Engineers
  • IRSEE: Electrical Engineers
  • IRSME: Mechanical Engineers
  • IRSS: Stores Service
  • IRSSE: Signal Engineers

Medical Services (IRMS)

  • Assistant Divisional Medical officer in Railways
  • Assistant Medical Officer in Indian Ordnance Factories Health Services
  • Junior Scale posts in Central Health Services
  • General Duty Medical Officer

Group B

There is no direct selection process as such for Group B jobs in the Railways. It mainly consists of personnel who have been promoted from Group C jobs.

Group C

Group C consists of clerical and supervisory roles like Ticket Collectors, Assistant Stations Masters, and Trains Clerks etc. It also includes lower level jobs in technical and engineering fields.
