How to become a Radio and TV Broadcaster

Step 1
Take any stream at +2 level

You can take any stream at +2 level to go for a career in TV and radio communication.however humanities stream with journalism or any other stream at the +2 level would give you an edge.

Step 2
Take a bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication/ any other discipline

Taking a bachelor’s degree in any discipline will make you eligible for higher studies in this field. However it is advisable to take a bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication. BA (Hons) Journalism and mass communication, Bachelor of Mass Communications, Bachelor’s in Advertising, Mass Communication and Journalism are some of such programs available. These are usually of 3 years duration.


Note:

After +2 you can also take up Short Term Diploma Courses in News Reading, Reporting, Anchoring & Radio Jockeying; Diploma in Video Production, Camera & Lights; Diploma in Visual Editing; Diploma in Acting and Performing Media, or Diploma in Mass Communication & TV Journalism. These are generally of 6 months to 1 year duration and will enable you to take up careers in this field.

Step 3
Take Master’s degree/ PG Diploma in mass communications

MA in broadcast journalism ( at SBC), MA communication and Media studies are some of the relevant Master’s degree courses available which are of two years duration. You can also take up PG diploma in Radio and TV Journalism/ PG Diploma in Broadcast technology (JMI) or PG Diploma in Mass Communication, Advertising and Journalism which also has curriculum components related to TV and radio program production and broadcast.


Note :

You may also take up 1 year postgraduate Diploma courses in an of the subjects, direction, electronic cinematography, video editing, sound recording and television engineering (Film and Television Institute of India)
