An anthropologist scientifically studies about humans, early hominids and primates. They examine the present and past biological, archeological, socio-historical, and socio-cultural aspects of humanity depending on their areas of specialisation. Their researches are oriented towards a better understanding of humanity as a whole.

How to become an anthropologist?

Step 1
Take Humanities stream at plus two level

Studying humanities stream with preferably anthropology and securing a minimum score in all the subjects will be a prerequisite for admission into prominent institutions for higher studies.

Step 2
Take B.A. Anthropology

The common course offered at the UG level in this area is B.A Anthropology. You can either go for B.A, Anthropology or Integrated MA (IMA) in social science with Anthropology combination. The duration of the BA course will be three years and the IMA course will be of 5 years.

Step 3
Take Master’s in Anthropology

After completing UG, you can go for an M.A. in Anthropology which is of two years duration.

Step 4
Go for doctoral studies

After pursuing master’s, you can go for an MPhil or PhD if your profile (including projects, research papers, and internships) and research proposal is excellent.

  • A graduate degree in any science or arts subject
  • A minimum 50% marks on aggregate
  • On the basis of an entrance examination

Foreign (For admission into MSc in Social Anthropology at Lund University, Sweden)

  • A bachelor's degree anthropology or it’s equivalent
  • Based on grades obtained in the bachelor's degree
